Though not as prevalent as it once was, the use of planar travel was once common among the magi of the world. The dangers of traveling through the Ethereal Plane slowly became apparent, as more and more travelers were lost to the twisted aberrations native to the plane, who had learned the routes that many of the magi used. Eventually, the danger was so great that only the brave or foolhardy traveled into the Ethereal. To his peers, Jal was always seen as a bit unhinged, as he had long acted as a bodyguard for planar travelers. Unlike those who feared the dangers of the Ethereal Plane, Jal was thrilled by the extreme risk, and would often venture into the unknown unaided to quench his thirst for adventure. His skill in evading danger and knack for extreme mobility made him a clear choice when the time came for Terynian in choosing his forces to compete in the Master's games.
